1956 DORSEY JACKET 2006 marked the 50th anniversary of Elvis’ TV debut on the Dorsey Show in 1956. The jacket that Elvis wore that evening was so beautiful that our shop “LOVE ME TENDER” decided to reproduce it. The project began in 2004 and was not completed until 2 years later in 2006. We examined over 500 vintage jackets, checking the condition of each thread, and looked at countless numbers of photos and videos. We asked a haute couture tailor to make the thread. He produced a knobbed thread that we were told would be impossible to recreate. The jacket is made of Rayon and the knobbed effect is the most difficult part of the jacket. In the 50’s they didn’t have high quality looms, so thread was made by hand and loom. This traditional method made it even more difficult to reproduce the jacket. It took about a year to produce the thread. The knubbed thread is arranged in a checked pattern on a black background. You will notice pink thread throughout the fabric. This was done because of Elvis’ love for pink and black. We thought this would remind you of Elvis and the 50’s. This jacket is very high quality. You will feel this as soon as you slip it on. We are very proud of the results. It was produced out of love and respect for Elvis and commitment to quality.
